about
Written for the songwriting challenge Spintunes 6, round 3. The challenge was to write a protest song in which we convince the listener about something we strongly believe in. I started with this base track and added a fuller arrangement for the contest, but like this original live version as well.
lyrics
Well they sent me off to fight in a far off land
Halfway ‘cross the world - you know I guess they had a plan
And I’m home, but the bombs there left me half a man
Let’s make sure this never happens again
Cause we left four thousand souls in the desert sand
And two thousand more so far in Afghanistan
Now they say we might be heading into good old Iran
But let’s make sure this doesn’t happen again
So I’d say, “March with me!” if I still had legs
I’d say, ”Let’s hoist our fists!” if I still had hands to wave
Just think how many men and women we could save
If we just don’t send them away
Now a soldier every day takes his life by his own hand
Killin’ takes it’s toll in a way that you just can’t understand
So there’s wives in empty beds, and kids who can’t hold daddy’s hand
Let’s make sure this never happens again
So I’d say, “March with me!” if I still had legs
I’d say,”Let’s hoist our fists!” if I still had hands to wave
Just think how many men and women we could save
If we just don’t send them away
So senators and congressmen, please be sane
For every life that is not lost there is so much that can be gained
What if they tried to throw a war and no one came
These tragedies would never happen again
So march for me, cause I don’t have legs
Hoist your fists for all of those who don’t have hands to wave
Raise your voice for all the men and women we could save
If we just don’t send them away
Raise your voice for all the men and women we could save
If we just don’t send them away
