This was a response to two challenges. First to, "Imitate another band or musician well enough that the listener can identify who you're emulating. Bonus points if it's a fellow Songfighter." Second to, "Write a song about another band or musician, but don't mention their name. Bonus points if it's a fellow Songfighter." This Album a week challenge was posted at an informal online singwriting contest that can be found at songfight.org.
The opportunity to write about a songfighter was interesting, and Max the Cat's name is just too cool to leave out. I can't groove nearly as well as him so I'd say this song is more of an homage than an imitation. Basically a true story, he posted a lot the first year I was on songfight! but his participation dwindled.
